Hobbitses Wants Mores Moneys

March 2, 2005

Lord of the Rings mastermind and hobbit-like creature Peter Jackson and his production company, Wingnut Films, are suing New Line Cinema, citing a withholding of profits from their 2001 collaboration, The Fellowship of the Ring. Jackson’s team alleges that New Line engaged in some shady “self-dealing” with studio affiliates. The plaintiffs also accuse the studio of paying erroneous royalty fees, falsifying merchandising revenue reports and failing to compensate Jackson and his wife, Fran Walsh, for the use of their script and lyrics in New Line-licensed video games. The CGI-enhanced ghost of J.R.R. Tolkien was unavailable for comment.
